Abstract:

Black holes, as the most mysterious objects in our universe, have been predicted and observed since 20th century. However, a self-consistency description of black holes still lack, toward which the contradictory between General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics needs to be reconciled. Since extreme strong gravitational interaction near the horizon, black holes are great probes to test quantum gravity theories. In this talk, I will review on several ways to quantize field near horizon and even the black hole itself and some quantum effects of black holes, including hawking radiation, the black hole information paradox. Then I introduce Scattering Matrix methods, a useful way to calculate interaction in blackhole background, and discuss the microscopic mechanism resulting in continuous spectrum.

Wenqi Yu is a PhD student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology under the supervision of professor Yi Wang. He obtained his Bachelor's degree at University of Science and Technology of China in 2023. His research mainly focusses on understanding the quantum nature of inflation, dark matter and black holes, using the techniques of quantum field theory in curved spacetime and quantum gravity.
